Safety Lancets
Safety lancets are sterile, single-use devices designed for capillary blood sampling with a built-in safety mechanism to protect both the patient and user from accidental needlestick injuries and cross-contamination. The needle or blade is completely shielded before use and automatically retracts and locks after the single puncture, making it impossible to reuse.
- Injury Prevention: The primary benefit is the automatic retraction and locking mechanism, which significantly reduces the risk of accidental needlestick injuries for healthcare professionals and individuals performing self-tests at home.
- Sterility: Each lancet is sterile and intended for single use only, which minimizes the risk of cross-infection.
- Ease of Use: Our safety lancets offer reliable performance with an economical, ergonomic design. Each device delivers a consistent, precise penetration depth, helping ensure dependable sampling and reducing the risk of user error.
- Comfort: The needles are often tri-beveled and silicone-coated to ensure a smoother, less painful puncture experience, and the entire process is quick due to a spring-loaded action.
- Variety: Safety lancets come in different needle gauges (thickness) and penetration depths to suit various blood sampling needs, from blood glucose monitoring to cholesterol checks and general diagnostic tests.
Safety lancets are widely used in a variety of settings:
- Hospitals and clinics: Mandated for use by healthcare professionals in many regions to comply with health and safety regulations, such as the Health and Safety (Sharp Instruments in Healthcare) Regulations 2013 in the UK, to protect employees.
- Home care: Ideal for individuals with diabetes, or their carers, who perform routine blood glucose monitoring, especially where there might be safety concerns with disposal or handling of traditional lancets.
- After use, the entire single-use device must be disposed of safely in a designated sharps container.
